Prayer is the most powerful force in the world. While this statement would find support among those who believe in Christ and have experienced the power of prayer, there are also skeptics who challenge the idea. Beyond just believers, there is supportive scientific research. In a Journal of the American Medical Association article regarding a study on the effectiveness of prayer entitled “A Randomized, Controlled Trial of the Effects of Remote, Intercessory Prayer on Outcomes in Patients Admitted to the Coronary Care Unit,” an intercessory prayer team was selected based on their belief in God and prayer. They were given names of coronary patients with instructions to pray daily for 28 days for their recovery. During the research, 1019 patients were prayed for. It was determined that prayer made a positive difference in those receiving prayer. The conclusion of the research was that prayer may be an effective adjunct to standard medical care.
According to Duke University’s Dr. Harold G. Koenig, M.D. “An exhaustive analysis of more than 1,500 reputable medical studies indicates people who are more religious and pray more have better mental and physical health.”
In Ephesians 6:18 the Apostle Paul emphasizes the importance of prayer: “…praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.”
At TLN we believe in the power of prayer and from the beginning of our ministry prayer has been a central theme. Each week we gather together as a staff and pray for the prayer requests of our viewers. And the needs are great: from serious illness to financial struggles; from marriage conflict to emotional crisis or concerns for loved ones. The fact is many of our TLNWest family of viewers are hurting and we take their requests seriously.
I know from personal experience what it means to know someone is praying for you in time of need. I still hear from friends who tell me they had been praying for Shirley when they heard she had broken her neck. One friend told me though the members of his church didn’t know Shirley personally, they were praying for her. And God has answered the prayers in a miraculous way! Shirley is near complete recovery in just four short months from an accident that should have resulted in death or paralysis. I know what it meant to know people were praying for me when I was going through a battle with cancer several years ago. God answered those prayers and here I am 35 years later – a living testimony of the power of prayer.
As our ministry expands with all the new electronic media opportunities available to us, there will be many more people calling on us for prayer – not just from our local communities but from all over the world. People with needs hard for us to imagine. With that remarkable expansion, it’s important that we also expand our circle of prayer partners. You are invited to be a part of the TLN CareForce prayer ministry. Perhaps God has been speaking to your heart about the need for more consistent prayer and you have realized your need to spend more personal time in prayer not only for your needs and the needs of your family, but for the needs of others. What better way to respond than to join with us in praying for the multitude of prayer requests we receive each day. With your commitment to be a part of the TLN CareForce prayer team, we will email you our prayer list each week to include in your prayer time. Prayer is powerful and praying for others can bring healing and hope. Being a part of a prayer team can make a spiritual difference in your own life as you begin to think and pray for the needs of others all over the world.

A Note From Our President – From My Heart to Yours
This morning, I awoke with a burden for my family and cherished friends. The past 12 months have been difficult. So many people I know are struggling with their faith amidst spiritual, health and financial challenges that are seemingly out of control. I’ve prayed with people in the past few months who were moments from losing their homes to wildfires and others whose children are losing their way. Some don’t even know how to grasp the media frenzy centered on our belief system. Christians once revered for their deep commitment of faith and hearts of charity are judged by diverging standards that undermines our desire to reflect God’s love. How can Christians dedicated to the very cause of Christ be facing some of the most difficult moments of their lives? Because the enemy comes to seek, kill and destroy. But, God IS love. And, THAT love sets us free. “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” John 10:10
God’s love is unconditional. Think about it. Just a couple months ago we celebrated the birth of Jesus. God sent His Son into the world to save us, before we even knew that we needed that forgiveness. He gave ALL regardless of our response. His love is so deep, so great and so unique that regardless of where we are in our spiritual walk, He never fails. He does not turn His back on us and loves us unconditionally. I want to fully receive that kind of love and I want to BE that kind of love to those who need it most.
Accept this challenge with me – to pray for our families, friends, nation and the world with unconditional love throughout this first year of the new decade. Pray that God our Father will equip us with the finest armor to stand for Him and to offer His love at all times. It is our calling and privilege as believers to bear each other’s burdens and to walk beside those who are going through tough times even when they may not understand how desperately they need it.
Pray for our families and friends with the earnest down-on-your-knees type of prayer that shatters the status quo.
In all aspects of your day, walk with Him, meditate on His promises and accept His unconditional love for you as you show that kind of love to others. (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
TLN’s Prayer and Praise Week 2020 was powerful; thank you for joining us! We plan to do more. That week, we introduced a Prayer and Praise card to help you focus this year on a vibrant relationship with Christ. You may get it HERE. Take a moment to list up to 5 things you’re grateful for in each category. And take a moment to list up to 5 things you’re praying for this year in each category. That gives you a week’s worth of emphasis to pray for during the entire year. As you thank God for all that He has already done, it will bolster your faith and you’ll become more intentional in each prayer request.
Finally, this morning I read 1 John 4:7-21 anew. It talks about God’s genuine love for us. We’ve added it to the back of the Prayer and Praise card. Place this somewhere where you can find it easily and may our God of Love comfort and inspire you!
